This experience invites you to explore Trunyan Village, one of the Bali Aga (Ancient Balinese) villages that continues to preserve its ancestral traditions and unique way of life. Located on the eastern side of Lake Batur, Trunyan offers a distinctive cultural atmosphere that differs significantly from most Balinese communities, making it one of Bali’s most remarkable heritage destinations.
Trunyan is widely known for its unique burial tradition, which differs from the common Ngaben cremation ceremony practiced in other parts of Bali. After undergoing purification rituals, the deceased are neither buried nor cremated. Instead, they are placed beneath the sacred Taru Menyan tree and covered with bamboo structures known as ancak saji. The name Taru Menyan means “fragrant tree,” and it is believed that the tree naturally absorbs any odor from the bodies. This tradition remains an essential part of the village’s cultural identity and has been passed down through generations.
During this journey, you will learn about the daily life and customs of the Trunyan community, visit the historic Pura Ratu Gede Pancering Jagat, and cross the lake by traditional wooden boat (pedau) to reach the burial site. This experience offers meaningful cultural insight and a deeper understanding of Bali’s diverse spiritual and ancestral heritage.

This experience invites you to explore the philosophy behind traditional Balinese architecture, which is deeply rooted in spiritual and cosmological principles. Traditional Balinese houses are built based on the concepts of Tri Angga (the three parts of the human body) and Tri Loka (the three realms of existence), as well as the spatial orientation system known as Nawa Sanga. Each structure is positioned according to its sacred function, from the family shrine in the east, the kitchen in the south, to the well in the north, symbolizing balance and harmony in daily life. The journey continues to Batuan Village, where you will see authentic traditional houses preserved without modern alterations. Clay walls and thatched roofs offer a glimpse into Bali’s past and the simplicity of traditional living. You will also visit Penglipuran Village, renowned for its orderly layout and harmonious village planning based on the Asta Kosala Kosali philosophy. Each house compound follows a similar structure and equal land size, reflecting social balance within the community. The experience concludes with a visit to Bayung Gede Village, the ancestral village of Penglipuran residents, where ancient traditions are still practiced. Unique customs such as placenta burial rituals and traditional marriage regulations highlight the depth of Balinese cultural heritage. This journey offers meaningful insight into the philosophy, architecture, and social systems that shape traditional Balinese life.
